Developer Greg Hiser’s concept is finally taking off.

“We're a new steakhouse,” Hiser said. “We're a casual dining steakhouse coming to Wichita with an aviation theme and flair. “I'm a pilot from way back when. My father was a pilot. My wife's a pilot. We're a big aviation family.”

It may be hard to visualize at this point in construction, but this restaurant is going to be chocked full of aviation artifacts. You can even dine in an area is just like the interior of an airplane. It's complete with a cockpit from an actual Beech.

Construction has been slow going. Greg is a contractor and partner in an insurance business. He’s taken his time building and has been learning along the way.

“I think that in the long term it will pay off very well, however, that's gonna take a lot longer than a typical restaurant will,” he said.

This is the first time that he and his wife, Beci, have ventured into a building or business of this type. So, they have hired experienced professionals to run the enterprise.

Situated within view of Mid-Continent runways, the lounge in the control tower will have the pilot/control tower chatter piped in. That, coupled with a great view of aircraft traffic, makes for a very unique experience.

To maintain control, they have financed the project with their own money.

“I can tell you that it's what I thought it would cost times two,” Hiser said.

Hangar One Steakhouse is scheduled to open in late December. The Hisers hope the concept catches on so they can expand in other markets.
