On November 12, 2009, feeling the urge for
another “Indiana Jones” adventure, I decided to go in search of one
of the C-123's used by the CIA to help deliver arms to the Contra's
during the Iran-Contra Affair.
I was able to recruit the help of another
Wichita friend by the name of Keith Bomholt and several Texas
friends of mine by the names of Wayne Gregory, Anthoney Bacewicz,
Geoff Gallup, Greg Shelton, Doug Jeans, and Charles Bond.
Together we met in San Jose, Costa Rica and set out in search of one
of two C-123's...
After some rain forest fun and crossing bridges
with hungry crocodiles below, avoiding some 37 species of deadly
snakes and spiders as big as plates and going through countless
small towns, we finally located our prize in the town of Manuel
Antonio, Costa Rica where one of the C-123's rests today and is
being used, of all things, as another aviation theme restaurant, and
where I can say the drinks and food were great.
WOW,
what a great surprise and ending of a wonderful adventure and nobody
was hurt during our fun adventure. |
